The Warning (Continued)
We are now in a better position to return to The Warning and how it was revealed in the Bible.
In 1995 and 1996 I wrote a series of papers on the coming world religious persecution. The title of the first paper was A Warning from Jesus About the End of the Age. These were published on my web site in 1998. Little did I realize that I would encounter this same title and same theme in the Garabandal prophecies in October, 2003. Until recently the latter were unknown to me.
The contents of both were intended to warn God=s people about the impending spiritual contest that would kill many and take this world into holy trauma.
I presented a thorough analysis of the biblical foundation for this warning. See
The best place to start this discussion is in the ALittle Apocalypse@ found in the parallel passages from Matt 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. Jesus had delivered his final scathing denouncement of the scribes and Pharisees Tuesday afternoon before his crucifixion. In those remarks were implications about the end of human affairs. (Matt 23:38 C Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.) The Apostles, unnerved and sobered by such possibilities, inquired concerning the destruction of the Temple. Awed by the massiveness of the stones and majesty of the structure they pointed this out to him and wondered how such things could be.
Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?
Jesus answered directly concerning the end of the age.
Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. And then many will fall away, and betray one another, and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.
Commentators provide evidence to show the current massive Christian persecutions going on around our planet. See David B. Barrett in his book Today=s Martyrs and:
However, while this may be true, the context of the warnings from Jesus has to do with the dire events now descending upon us, with major disruption of our social order, and not persecutions suffered in a usual social context.
The many false prophets include those who deny the end-of-age warnings, and promise a still greater godless civilization. We can easily see from the fact that many will fall away, and betray one another, and hate one another Jesus was not talking about ordinary social events.
Mark 13:12 - 13
And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; and you will be hated by all for my name's sake.
(This same sentence, word for word, was displaced to Matthew 10:21-22, which is a corruption of the passages concerning the end of the age.)
This is the context of the coming bitter persecutions. Other, similar remarks may be found in the other Gospels. Consider John=s Gospel:
"I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away. They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour
is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. And they will do this because they have not known the Father, nor me. But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you of them.
The key was in the phrase about Aoffering service to God.@ Who would this be?
If those who are to bring a Great Persecution believe they are offering a service to God they could not be ancient pagan Romans. This leaves only the ancient Jews. But, as I showed, except for isolated cases, the Jewish persecutions ended with Paul=s conversion. The Jewish community at that time was stunned by his complete reversal, based on a shocking visitation from Jesus, as he proclaimed everywhere. See Acts 9:5, 22:8, 26:15. The Jews no longer prosecuted the new sect. The Church then had peace, Acts 9:31, with the new teaching spreading throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and with Paul as its foremost exponent.
As a consequence of these facts I deduced that this warning from Jesus in the Gospel of John had to apply also to the end of the age, and not historic times.
But who believes they are offering a service to God while killing God=s people?
I was particularly intrigued by a statement not found in most current editions of the Bible. In addition to the controversial Appendix of verses 9 to 20 in Chapter 16 of Mark=s Gospel, one manuscript ended with still another variation. This was from the third-oldest Greek parchment manuscript of the Gospels in the world (late 4th B early 5th century), known as the Washington Gospels (Codex Washingtonianus), or the Freer Manuscript of the Gospels. This manuscript is now located in the Freer Museum at the Smithsonian Institute. It contains a small fragment of text known as the Freer Logion.
Refer to more detailed discussion at
As one commentator remarked:
The Freer Logion has an interesting message, implying that Satan had lost his power forever. This agrees with liberal Christian theology which treats Satan as a concept of evil, and not as a living, supernatural quasi-deity. It disagrees with conservative Christian theology which regards Satan as a supernatural living entity who remains intensely and continually involved in everyone's life today.
The commentator did not understand the difference between the Devil losing his power as a Planetary Administrator, while still retaining his power to corrupt mankind.
Many persons view this text as part of a mere transition piece, to smooth the rough ending of the Short Version of Mark, which leaves us hanging in an uncertain state. But it we accept the full implication we see that there must have been current among Christians, up to the fifth century, ideas or beliefs about Satan's continued power, and that this power would result in terror among God's people.
Since Jesus refers to the Devil elsewhere as the "Prince of this world," John 12:31, 14:30, 16:30, who was cast down, with similar references in Luke 10:18. But if Christians continued to believe in his presence, Acts 26:18, II Cor 4:4, and so on, there must be two different aspects to this Spirit Personality that are not clearly recognized in Christian writings or theology. The first is his administrative power as "Prince of this world" or "god of this world," which was removed (by Jesus), and his spiritual influence, which continues.
The author of the above comment did not understand this difference, nor do virtually all modern liberal Christians.
|This is the text of the variant piece:||
You will find that this passage has another translation in which the more dire content is watered down to suit modern disbelieving fancies. See
where the alternate translation is offered, and which appears in the New American Bible used by Catholics in their public worship.
This important difference is seen in the phrasing: "The limit of the years of Satan's authority has been fulfilled, (meaning it is done), and the "agency of unclean spirits." Unclean spirits are those who appear in so-called spiritualism or channeling. (Many OT and NT references.) You can see the importance in the manner of translation of this fragmentary text. Compare
under Satan, who, through the agency of unclean spirits, does not allow the true power of God to be apprehended
under Satan, who does not allow the things under the unclean spirits to attain to the truth [and] power of God.
In the first case we are prevented from apprehending the true power of God, a stark reality well nigh universal around the word today, as the result of the work of unclean spirits and general apostasy, while in the second we have an abstruse phrase that leaves us wondering what things are under these unclean spirits, or even what is meant by unclean spirits.
Again we see the difference in:
The limit of the years of Satan's authority has been fulfilled, but other terrors draw near
The term of years of Satan's authority has been fulfilled, but other terrible things are coming near.
Without giving thought to these differences liberal Christians conclude that Satan=s power was forever removed. The text actually means his administrative power, not his spiritual influence, which still remains. Hence, those people cannot discover how the other terrors are now impending and the direct result of his influence upon the minds of channelers and others who have come under his dominance.
If this passage has any merit it must mean that Jesus looked forward to "other terrors."
This text is quoted (TEXT 1) in the International Critical Commentary, in Volume Two of the New Testament, by E. P. Gould, A Critical and Exegetical Commentary on the Gospel according to St. Mark, 1907, New York, Charles Scribner=s Sons. Gould was astute enough to tie this remark back to the warning from Jesus in John 16:1-4. (His tie is under his discussion about John 16:11.) He states that:
"The impending 'terrors' may be the persecutions foretold in John 16:2-3."
Indeed, that is exactly what is going on.
We can see from further remarks by Jesus how these warnings tie into the end of the age.
Then if any one says to you, 'Lo, here is the Christ!' or 'There he is!' do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. Lo, I have told you beforehand. So, if they say to you, 'Lo, he is in the wilderness,' do not go out; if they say, 'Lo, he is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of man.
Who are these false Christs?
They are the channelers who believe they represent Christ (not Jesus). They use the abstruse imagery of AChrist@ to bring their evil influence. The most outstanding example of such work is the book, A Course in Miracles, where this imagery of AChrist@ is adroitly exploited. Personal descriptions from these people, and in their publications, describe the great signs and wonders they now experience. I have discussed this, with examples, in my book, Spirit Entry Into Human Mind. Refer also to my web site. This exhibition will become vivid when the former Prince is given his release to destroy God=s people.
That is the Great Persecution to which Jesus referred at the end of the age.
We find no hint in the prophecies of the mechanisms by which they will obtain social control or otherwise directly influence political decisions. Perhaps Jesus did not want us to interfere in the execution of his Judgment. We must await unfolding events.
We can now return to The Warning described by Conchita. I shall repeat the summary I gave in the Section 2 of this series on Garabandal.
The Origin of The Warning
When Conchita stated that it comes directly from God she could only mean that Jesus is the one who sets this Judgment process in motion. It does not mean that the Spirit Agents are not involved; they are the ones who execute the Judgment, totally unaware of how they are being used.
The channelers, those who commune with the Spirits, are now widespread throughout the world. They will follow the instructions they are given for the slaughter of God=s people, no matter where found. No one can escape it. People all over the world, regardless of nationality, race, or religious persuasion will experience this great Judgment.
There are no commercial, political, or national mechanisms by which this will be halted. Many of us will be killed; we will feel it bodily. Great fear will force us back to a new and powerful relationship with God; we will feel his Spirit now descending upon us.
Because it comes through the supernatural power of the fallen Prince it will not be subject to our science or social powers. We all will experience this Great Judgment.
Correction of World Religious Conscience
We all will now examine our religious and spiritual loyalties. We all will have good reason to examine the consequences of our sins. We all will now have our sins revealed to us. Indeed, this unique spiritual episode will correct our consciences. He will wash away mendacity and falseness from his people. He will bring purification among his people. Now we will be prepared for the Great Miracle.
The Catastrophic Nature of The Warning
Indeed, it will create great social catastrophe. Many will wish they were dead, rather than live through this cleansing and purging.
This episode in world destiny will bring clear recognition that the Miracle will demonstrate God's power, in his conquest over the power of the Devil, and that the Great Chastisement now proceeds upon us.
