1996

The year opened with many obvious fakes, and continued through the summer, with some real circles interwoven into the manmade activity. Again we had cause for Colin Andrews to believe that most circles were human hoaxes. I show only those formations that I believe are from celestial sources. We should keep in mind that our celestial friends had no need anymore to make simple circles, or to carry forward with designs they abandoned in previous years. This fact escaped most researchers.

East Field, Alton Barnes, Nr Avebury, Wiltshire. Formed 17th June

This spectacular formation arrived 17th June in the famous East Field at Alton Barnes (SU 115-625), pointing at Adam's Grave to the North and Woodborough Hill to the South. It measured 648 feet long, and consisted of 89 circles forming twin strands of "thought bubbles" (77 total) spiraling around a central backbone of 12 large circles in a line. Everyone who sees it agrees that the design represents DNA.

Stonehenge, Wiltshire. Reported 7th July.

Another spectacular formation. This has been dubbed a "Julia Set" because it could be generated from mathematical equations that reiterate.

Windmill Hill, Nr Yatesbury, Wiltshire. Reported 29th July.

The formation is a spiral with three arms consisting of 194 circles. It brought awe to many observers.

Ashbury, Nr Swindon, Oxfordshire.

Reported 1st August.

As Peter Sorensen wrote: Crop Type: Wheat

This area is on the border of Oxfordshire and is steeped in history just like the Avebury area. It boasts the largest White Horse in England, and certainly one of the oldest. The horse is only two miles from Ashbury, also the ancient Longbarrow of Wayland Smithy adorns the landscape, but is now enclosed by tall trees which flank the Ridgeway Path.

The formation in question was situated on high ground above the village of Ashbury, and could not be viewed from anywhere due to the extremely flat field. The formation could not even be seen from the road parallel with the field. I almost gave up searching, when I was only 50 yards from it. That's how elusive it was, but well worth the find.

The formation consisted of a large circle, placed inside were two crescents moons, creating a Vesica Pisces in between the shapes. Again very impressive floor pattern, but because the crop was riper this time, the floor lay didn't quite have the flow of Liddington Castle.

The two crescent Moons placed within the circle were not situated in a central position, they were slightly offset to one side. As they both mirrored one another, their positioning again was inaccurate, one was placed slightly below the other. This could have been a deliberate ploy on behalf of the Circle Makers, but it certainly created an interesting floor detail on either side.

The Vesica Pisces, the shape that was produced by the two crescents moons, consisted of a circle in it's centre, with two directional layers of crop identical in detail each side finishing the overall shape.

A very interesting formation, and quite a size, about 170 feet in diameter. The flow of the crop was clockwise around the Crescent Moons, as well as the inner circle situated in the centre of the Vesica Pisces.

An interesting feature to note was the standing crop on one side of the formation. This was the side were the formation is on a slight incline, meaning whatever produced it, didn't quite have the force to flattened the crop, because it was flowing up hill.

Barton-Le-Clay, Nr Dunstable, Bedfordshire. Reported 6th August.

This unusual design, suggestive of Celtic art, appeared near Luton, Bedfordshire; early August, in wheat. It is very large, something on the order of 500 feet, but in photos its bold design gives the illusion that it's smaller.

Chisledon, Nr Swindon, Oxfordshire. Formed 2nd August.

Note the fake formation as a companion to this elegant presentation. We can see how the formations have progressed to multiple circles that demonstrate superior conceptualization.
